My background & approach

I believe therapy works best when it feels human — warm, honest, and genuinely collaborative.

DA

I'm Daniel Avital, an integrative psychotherapist and counsellor working with adults and couples. I trained at the Minster Centre in London, where I completed a rigorous four-year programme in integrative psychotherapy.

My integrative approach means I draw on several therapeutic traditions — person-centred therapy, psychodynamic thinking, CBT-informed techniques, and somatic awareness — tailoring the work to what is most helpful for you specifically.

I've worked in NHS primary care, private practice, and third-sector organisations, supporting people through anxiety, depression, bereavement, identity questions, relationship difficulties, and significant life changes.

I currently offer sessions in Central London and online across the UK. I offer a free 20-minute initial consultation so we can see whether working together feels right before committing to anything.

How I work with you

  • 01

    Exploration without pressure

We move at your pace. I won't push you into areas you're not ready to explore, but I will gently invite curiosity.

  • 02

    Understanding patterns

Together we look at recurring themes in how you think, feel, and relate — understanding where they came from and whether they still serve you.

  • 03

    Building new possibilities

Insight alone isn't enough. I work with you on practical change — new ways of responding to yourself and others.

  • 04

    The relationship as a resource

Research consistently shows the therapeutic relationship itself is the biggest driver of change. I take that seriously.

"The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction, not a destination."

— Carl Rogers, On Becoming a Person

— Sarah, individual therapy

"I was sceptical about online therapy but Daniel made it feel just as personal as in-person. I've processed grief I'd been carrying for years. Genuinely life-changing."
— Maria, online individual therapy

— Rachel, individual therapy
"I was nervous about couples therapy but Daniel made us both feel heard from the first session. We now have tools to actually work through conflict rather than just repeating the same arguments."
— Priya & David, couples therapy

Frequently asked questions

If your question isn't here, please don't hesitate to get in touch directly.

What happens in the first session?
The first session is a chance for us to meet and for me to understand more about what brings you to therapy. I'll ask about your background, what you're hoping to get from the work, and any relevant history. It's also an opportunity for you to ask questions and decide whether working with me feels right. There's no obligation to continue after the first session.
How long does therapy last?
This varies considerably. Some people benefit from a focused short-term piece of work (6–12 sessions); others find that longer-term therapy is what they need. We'll review how things are going regularly and you can end at any point with reasonable notice. I won't keep you in therapy longer than is helpful.
Is everything I share confidential?
Yes — confidentiality is fundamental to the work. There are a small number of exceptional circumstances where I would need to break confidentiality (for example, if I believed someone was at serious risk of harm), but I would discuss this with you first wherever possible. I work within the BACP ethical framework and receive regular supervision.
Do you offer online sessions?
Yes — all services are available online via secure video call. Many clients find online therapy just as effective as in-person, and it has the advantage of flexibility. You'll need a private space and a reliable internet connection. I use encrypted platforms to protect your privacy.
What's the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?
In practice the terms are often used interchangeably and there is significant overlap. Counselling tends to focus on specific issues and practical coping, while psychotherapy typically involves deeper exploration of underlying patterns and longer-term work. As an integrative practitioner, I draw on both traditions and tailor the approach to what you need.
How do I know if therapy is working?
Progress in therapy isn't always linear. Early sessions sometimes stir things up before they settle. I regularly invite you to reflect on how the work is going and what feels helpful or not. We'll review goals together and adjust if needed. If you feel stuck or uncertain, I encourage you to raise it — that conversation is often itself part of the work.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
I require 48 hours' notice for cancellations. Sessions cancelled with less than 48 hours' notice are charged in full, unless there are exceptional circumstances. This policy protects our working relationship and the regularity that makes therapy effective.
Do you work with specific communities or identities?
I work with people from all backgrounds and identities. I am particularly experienced working with LGBTQ+ individuals, people navigating cultural identity and belonging, and those from Jewish communities. I am committed to an anti-oppressive and culturally sensitive practice.
